The 18th foundation day of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barpeta, was observed today in its campus with various Programmes in collaboration with IFFCO, Barpeta. Bajali DC Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury took part in the function and lit the ceremonial lamp as the chief guest.
Pinkudhar Barman, subject matter specialist, explained the objectives and gave an account of the activities of the KVK since its inception.
The DC said farmers do not earn much profit through traditional farming, Cultivation of paddy alone is not remunerative, hence livestock farming is now popular and it has proved to be quite profitable. The main contribution of farming is that it strengthens the band of unity in society, he said,
Dr Bhumidhar Das, DVO of Barpeta, in his speech appealed the the farmers to adopt the latest agricultural innovations with support from the KVK. In Assam, there is a huge market for various agricultural products. With new scientific methods of farming, the farmers can reap more profit, he observed. The KVK has immense contribution in boosting the rural economy, he said.
Binod Saikia, Deputy Field Manager of IFFCO, Barpet, appealed to the progressive farmers to spread their knowledge among the neighboring farmers and stressed community farming.
Six selected farmers were felicitated for their excellent services and contributions. They are Gouri Kanta Deka, Sahadat Hussain, Nazrul Islam, Kalpana Barman, Purnananda Talukdar and Dhanjit Das. Spray machines were distributed among the farmers on the occasion.
